How to use the Fill & Sign PDF

  1. Open the form. Choose the PDF. If it has fillable fields, they are listed on the left.
  2. Fill in the fields. Type your answers, tick the boxes and pick from the lists. On a plain PDF, add text, ticks or crosses where they belong.
  3. Sign and download. Draw, type or upload your signature, place it on the page and download the completed PDF.

What is the Fill & Sign PDF?

Many forms arrive as a PDF that you are expected to print, fill in by hand and scan again. You can skip all of that. This tool lets you type into the form's fields, add text, ticks and crosses anywhere on the page, draw or type your signature and download the completed PDF.

It works with fillable PDFs, which have clickable fields, and with ordinary PDFs, where you place the text yourself. Everything happens in your browser, so a form with personal details is never uploaded.

Fillable forms and plain PDFs

A fillable PDF has real fields: text boxes, check boxes and drop-down lists. This tool finds them and shows each one as a field on the left, so you type there and see the answer appear on the page. If your PDF has no fields it is just a flat page. Then you add text boxes, ticks and crosses yourself and drag them to the right spot.

Signing the form

Draw your signature, type it in a handwriting font or upload a picture of it, then place it on the page. This is a simple electronic signature, an image of your signature on the document. It does not by itself verify who signed. If several people have to sign, use Request Signatures.

Limits to know about

  • Text in form fields uses the form's own font, so some accented or non-Latin characters may not fit.
  • Some older dynamic (XFA) forms from banks and agencies may not work. If so, save or print the form to a new PDF first and place the text by hand.
  • A PDF with a password has to be opened with Unlock PDF first.

Tips for better results

Zoom in on the preview and check every answer before you download.

Use the option to lock the form fields when the answers should stay as they are.

Text boxes write Latin letters only. For other alphabets, add an image of your text.

Keep a blank copy of the form so you can fill it in again.
