Free Metadata Remover

Remove EXIF, GPS location and author details from photos and PDFs. See what is hidden in a file before you share it.

Photos and PDFs carry hidden details such as GPS location, camera model, author name and editing software. Drop a file in to see what it contains, then download a clean copy before you share it.

How to use the Metadata Remover

  1. Add your files. Choose one or more photos (JPG, PNG, WebP) or PDFs. Each file is read on your device.
  2. Read what we found. Every file lists the hidden details it contains, such as GPS location, camera model, dates or author.
  3. Download the clean copy. Save each file or download them one by one. The original on your device is not changed.

What is the Metadata Remover?

Most phone photos carry more than the picture. They can include the exact GPS position where you took it, the phone model, the date and time and the editing app. PDFs often store the author's name, the software used and the dates the file was created and changed.

This tool shows you what a file is carrying, then saves a clean copy. Photos are redrawn without their hidden data, and PDFs have their document properties and XMP record cleared. Everything happens in your browser, so the original file is never uploaded.

Signplify tools run in your browser, so there is no signup, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it.

Getting started with the Metadata Remover

Using the metadata remover takes a minute or two. Your progress is saved in this browser, so you can come back later.

Tips for better results

Clean photos before posting them in public places such as forums, classified ads and marketplaces, where a GPS tag can reveal your home.

Keep the original. Some editing workflows rely on the date and camera details that this tool removes.

Check visible content as well. Metadata is only one way a file can give away private details, so look for names and numbers on the page or in the picture.

Privacy and where your data goes

Documents and files you use here are processed on your own device. Signplify does not receive what you type or the files you open, which makes it suitable for sensitive information. If you clear your browser data, any saved draft is removed.

Frequently asked questions

Does it remove everything hidden in a file?

It removes EXIF, GPS, XMP and similar embedded records from photos, and the document properties and XMP record from PDFs. It does not change what is visible, and it does not edit comments, form fields or the metadata of images embedded inside a PDF.

Will it reduce the quality of my photo?

JPG and WebP images are saved again at high quality (about 92 percent), so the change is not noticeable for normal use. PNG images are saved without any loss of quality.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is opened and cleaned in your browser, and nothing is sent to our servers.

What hidden details can photos and PDFs contain?

Things like GPS location, camera model, author name and editing software. The tool shows you what a file contains before you decide to share it.
